I was thinking the other day, and while that sounds scary, try and figure this one out for me:
There are 2 continents that use the name 'America' - North America and South America
South America contains 12 countries.
North America contains 23 countries (jeepers I didn't know that! I always just thought it was just Canada and USA - forgot Central America is really a part of the Northern continent)
Yet, only those from the United States of America - 1 country out of the 35 that occupy the American continents - are called Americans.

I thought it might be fun to jot down some things as I think of them today. And not just because I have nothing to blog about. Not at all....

I have had this conversation with Americans who mock people when something is addressed to Americans and someone will be like "I'm Canadian, am I included?" and they're like "what the...? I said "Americans" dip-shit" and I'm all like "well, America refers to a huge, vast continental region [in my schooling days it was only one continent, yes? I would get stumped if I faced a quiz question asking how many continents there are as there used to be Asia, Europe, America, Australasia, Antarctica but now they split America and add India, right?] so aren't all people in the Americas Americans?" but they haughtily laugh and point out that only "The United States of America" ends in the word America, thus entitling them Americans as we couldn't really call them "United States of Americans" (and they'd probably be offended by "Yanks") so I guess they have a point.
