The man with the silky-smooth voice preaching about peace and god and drugs. This album could not be more relevant today. The transitions between songs are almost as seamless as Marvin Gaye's voice.

What's Going On: The Detroit Mix - Marvin Gaye

No, I am not sick of this album - I could listen to it all day long! This was like a pre-release mix, so uses alternate vocal tracks and the percussion is a little different in parts. A little more dreamy sounding. And the transitions are even better!

(What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis

Liam's voice on Roll With It is actually awesome. Noel's guitar tone is generally terrible and the electric guitars for the most part just sound messy. And the album is still the peak of Britpop and completely awesome.

A whole lot of indie rocks about being young and going to the clubs? And it just rules the schools? Inject this straight into my veins!

This is only Teenage Dirtbag. This is the only good Wheatus song. Because it is the only Wheatus song I know. Man, that chorus had no business being so good.

When I Was Born for the 7th Time - Cornershop

This is only Brimful of Asha. It is the only Cornershop song I know... and I do not like it all that much. It is about 4 minutes too long. I could have listened to three Arctic Monkeys songs again!

Yeah, I am going with the full title today. Fuck you and your problems. And that is kind of the vibe of this album - I love the angst in her voice on the opening track and on a few of the following tracks. And this may well the best lyrical display of the last 30 years.

This is purely Never Gonna Give You Up. One of the most iconic songs of the 80s. The man had a voice that did not match the face.

More indie rock from Kobe's favourite daughters. Well, my favourite daughters of Kobe? Lots of fun. Lots of bad guitar solos and backing vocals. Just the way it should be.

Is this fun indie rock day or something? The difference here is I just find Jack White awfully pretentious about his indie-ness.

Summer is here to kick your ass! Incredible follow-up to a great album - non-stop awesome punk rock, with a growing impact as the album continues. So like a snowball? I think I am confusing my seasons and metaphors...

Less Than SEX - BiSH

This is a single that only came with the limited blu-ray or something. I only discovered their existence when watching FROM DUSK TiLL DAWN, where they performed their entire discography up to that point. These are awesome songs and ヒーローワナビー one of the coolest songs on the planet.

Let It Be-minus - Sad Dracula

I feel like this almost had potential? Like, it is clearly a dude having a mess around and still has stupid lyrics and silly screaming, but if DRA had put a bit more effort in, I am sure he could have made a really good album out of both Sad Dracula albums. And, quite frankly, I would rather hear him making this nonsense than hear him whining and feeling sorry for himself. The punk version of Dear Candy rips.

Let It Be - The Beatles

This is the most un-Beatles album, for sure. Unsurprising LOGMAN opinion: McCartney's songs on this are the least interesting. Sure, it could all use a bit less Spector-ness, but I will give him props for how he managed to edit some of these things in to actual songs. Maybe it could have been great? I am not sure. There certainly are some fantastic songs on here, it is all just a bit messy.

Ooh I had some songs from this in my head the other day, but totally did not realise I actually have this! Joke is on LOGMAN today. These guys clearly went to the Goo Goo Dolls school of alt rock. It always came across as fake corporate grunge to me, but I think they were legit indie until the success of Runaway Train. Or maybe that was their first attempt at doing the radio thing?

Highlights: Misery, Just Like Anyone

I should have this whole album, but instead I only have The Impression That I Get. Ska gets a bad rap, because songs like this are what make the world a better place.

That opening is so recognisable and funky and sexy. And that voice is just silky smooth. The only criticism I can muster is that, like What's Going On? before it, the whole album almost sounds like one long song. But it sure is a groove.

Let's Get It On (Deluxe Edition) - Marvin Gaye

Of course I have this. I am not some sort of uncivilised fool! And most of this is fairly necessary; the demos are awesome and then there are most of the tracks from You're The Man. Which could have been a very good album, as well! Marvin Gaye was special.

Let's Get It Started - MC Hammer

Hammer's debut or second album, depending on who you ask. Basically a remix of his indie-released debut album that no one in the world has a copy of. Hammer's vocal delivery is very different; much more of a shout-style, as opposed to his more chilled rapping that would come on later albums. Very dance oriented. Very nice. 

Highlights: Let's Get It Started, Ring 'Em, Cold Go MC Hammer, They Put Me in the Mix

More COVID-era BiSH releases? Oh wait, Less Than SEX was not - I just got exposed to those songs from a COVID-era performance. My bad! This is an EP/Mini Album. Half of it is pretty average, I must admit, while the other half is VERY good. The punk-pop stuff in particular.

I Get Wet - Andrew W.K.
I challenge anyone to deny the absolute party that these songs are. Massive metal guitars with piano against dance beats and silly lyrics being screamed/shouted. It is the American answer to Japanese Idol music. And genuinely ahead of its time.

I Love Rock N' Roll - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

This album is so consistent; it kicks off with an awesome song and then just rocks hard the whole way through. And at a VERY enjoyable level. Until the end, with an incredibly strange choice of a cover song in Little Drummer Boy. Seriously. Even the bonus tracks are much better than that.

Highlights: I Love Rock N' Roll, You're Too Possessive, Oh Woe Is Me, Victim of Circumstance

I Love the Nightlife - Alicia Bridges

This may be my first listen to this album? The remix version of I Love the Nightlife is so fantastic... yet the original version is much less disco. In fact, this whole album is. And Bridges sings like this is an audition for Cabaret. Insert Kevin Sorbo gif here...

Imogen Heap at her most alternative, I guess you could say. A bit more alt rock in there, for sure. And a whole bunch of mad breakdowns. A fair bit of madness just in general. Certainly much darker in parts. The highs are higher than she has ever done since.

I Should Coco - Supergrass

Is this the best album of the whole 'Britpop' era? Or is it in 2nd place to In It For the Money - Supergrass' 2nd album? Either way, Supergrass were hugely underappreciated at the time and this album holds up extremely well. I love that changeup in I'd Like to Know. It is a veritable party!

Classic G-Funk grooves. Warren G is highly underrated. As is Mack 10. This collection is a mess; it is not the full album and even has a song that is NOT actually part of the album. I will sort that one day.

Bah gawd this is Mr. Gaye's grooviest sexiest jam it would make Prince blush. I could live without all the sex noises, though. Honestly, they should remix this album and remove it all so I can crank this album on a sunny day without the neighbours thinking I am watching porn.

Ice TV: The Original Soundtrack Ablum - Various Artists

No, that is not a typo. They were being quirky! Ice TV was one of those youth focused TV shows; music and interviews and silly stuff. It was great. Then it got rebranded as Ice As and died a miserable death. This is basically a collection of songs that were popular at the time, including some indie New Zealand songs. I have some of these elsewhere, but others I would never have in a million years. Fun little time capsule or something.
