Logan's Afternoon at Work
So a friend who works at The Press was working late last night doing something that involved rugby - that was all the information I had, as she knew saying her work was rugby related would be more than enough to describe the pain. So I decided to utilise my impressive MS Paint skills to help her out:

To the NZ Media, Sporting Communities and General Public:
Domestic violence is NOT acceptable, and the more you continue to praise and support a man who has admitted to beating he his former girlfriend, the more you make his actions seem insignificant. All people should be allowed justice and forgiveness, but this man has done everything in his power to avoid the justice system and until he is actually made to face up to his crimes, you should be reserving this unconditional love and support you all throw so willingly at at a man who has shown nothing but cowardice.
Is this really want we want to teach our children? That it is OK to beat your partner and then bribe her to avoid any police involvement? And then when things go wrong you should run into the woods threatening to kill yourself so your lawyers can get the trial delayed? Twice?
There is a reason Wrigley's have suspended all their advertising involving Chris Brown.
I am sick of hearing about Tony Veitch. Being involved with rugby is no excuse for what he has done; and until he can be a Man and stop crying, stop delaying this trial and just plead guilty and take whatever justice he deserves, he does not deserve to be on television feeling more important than the low-life that he truly is.

Shoot. Me. Now.
Sure - sensational headlining that isn't really followed up anything major. But the statistics make me sad that people's priorities are this out of wack.

Quote of the Week
"I am more determined than ever to fight to clear my name."
- Tony Veitch outside court after he was charged with 7 counts of assault.
Ummm, dude - you already admitted to beating her. Remember that?
Unless you plan on taking that back and find some magical spell to make EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSE FORGET, then I don't know how you plan to clear your name.
Also, pretty funny that he claimed it was a one-off 'lashing out' (you know, when he made all those excuses about it being a very dark time for him and all that), yet he's been charged with another 6 counts of man on woman assault for incidents between 2002 and 2006.
Enjoy calling the inter-prison rugby tournaments, scumbag!

Tales From NZ - The Land of Idiots
Looking at all this furore over Tony Veitch beating the stuffing out of his partner in 2006, I find one thing very interesting:
Namely, so many people think he is still a "great guy" and that this is no one's business. Furthermore, that he shouldn't be prosecuted because he paid her so much money and has said he is sorry.
I'm sorry, but what freekin' century is this country stuck in?!?! Have we all gone backwards and decided that hitting a woman is OK? How about knocking her to the ground and repeatedly kicking her with such force that she suffers broken vertebrae and head injuries - is that what a "great guy" does??? Or was it the fact that he gave her $100,000 to keep her mouth shut so he wouldn't lose her job? Yeah I guess that was pretty "great"
I am honestly sickened by the reaction by people of this country. On the radio the other night, countless women called in to say that people should just leave him alone and that if she didn't press charges then it must be OK. Yes, I'm sure that's why she didn't press charges - I wouldn't be at all afraid of someone who had just beaten me to the point where I had a broken back and couldn't walk.
The other common argument in his defence is 'If he was just an average guy not on TV then no one would care.'
WRONG! And on so many levels.
Firstly, if he were not on television it would still be reported by police and therefore public knowledge. And a court case that garners public attention, as such a violent crime would, is not going to be attractive to ANY employer.
Secondly, the fact is this guy IS on television every night (and the radio as well) and as such has the public image of his employers at stake. Would you hire Mike Tyson to present your sports news? No. And not just because his speech is mangled and less intelligent than an old man eating a box of marbles. You wouldn't hire him to do that job because it would make your station look completely bogus to have it fronted by a nut job that beats women.
And thirdly, if this was just an average guy from down the road you would all condemn him and expect him to be prosecuted. I hope.
And if it is indeed true that TVNZ knew about this incident long before the public, then someone needs to answer some questions over there too.
Maybe Tony Veitch can place a big rugby ball under his arm and the hell off my TV as well?

I'm Right! Now Get Lost
I had to laugh this morning...
Everytime I bash rugby, people tell me how much money it brings the country - despite the fact that 'the country' doesn't actually see that money, but the rugby clubs and and players with their ludicrous salaries do. Sure tourism can help, but I doubt many people come to New Zealand specifically to see the Canterbury Crusaders play against the Auckland Blues. If they do, then they need to be shot on entry to the country.
Anyways, despite all the claims about how profitable rugby is for our country, the NZRU released a report today stating that last year's Super (crappy) 14 lost them $10 million. Wow. Good to know those billions of dollars spent promoting the sport are worthwhile.
This renews my anger at the New Zealand government putting $20 million into the redevelopment of Eden Park for the Rugby World Cup. Oh yeah sure, you can all try and tell me just how much tourism the competition brings into the country - and I will always just tell you to go read how much tourism it brought to Australia in 2003. The answer? WAY under what they expected. In fact, their numbers actually dropped by 2% from the previous year. The Tourism Minister at the time tried to pretend that any increases they saw was a benefit of the World Cup, but last year even the Australian Rugby Union admitted that they lost money by hosting the cup there.
$20,000,000 is a lot of money that this country could use for something a whole lot better, especially at this time when we are looking more and more like a third-world country every day. I keep waiting to see a World Vision ad with that big grey hairy dude, and he goes up to some little kid and says "This is Tania - say 'Hi', Tania' "Hi" ' Tania lives in Wainoni with her Parents, her Grand-parents, her cousins and her next door neighbours. They stay inside all day because they can't afford to use the car, and they don't use the lights because they can't afford to pay for the electricity. They had to sell all their furniture so they could buy fruit and vegetables last week"
Seriously though, why do my taxes have to go towards a game I hate just because some people wanted to make a living doing something stupid and are now finding that it doesn't make money? Curses to you, rugby and your year long season of doom!
I hope they keep losing more and more money. Take your incompetent business abilites and get the hell out of my life!

Some New Zealanders Don't Like Rugby
Note to Bluebird:
While I do enjoy eating your potato chips, I don't particularly enjoy finding a picture of a rugby player in the packet. Jerome Kaino may be "one of the most athletic loose forwards in New Zealand rugby", but to me that just makes him even more of a jackass.

A NEW Worship Song for New Life Church
Ooooooooh black jerseys
Running across a big square field
Ooooooooh they tackle each other
And spit because they are so tough
I want to be just like them
If only I could be just like them
That’s my only goal – to be like them
And no one else ‘coz they’re my reason for living
Thank you, Jesus
For giving us the All blacks
Thank you, Jesus
For making them the greatest people in the world
Thank you, Jesus
For giving your life for me
There is nothing that could take me away from you
Except for when there is an All Blacks game on TV
So thank you most of all for the All Blacks
Their drinking/fighting/group sex culture is on-ly way to beeeeeee
Yeah

Rugby: The One Holy Game
I am now officially ashamed to have ever been a part of a "New Life" church:
Let's Watch the All Blacks at Church
I'm not really sure why a church would actually promote staying up all night and eating junk food (especially to teenagers), but I guess it's all about making people happy and all that.
The actual printed version of the article I read this morning is even more ridiculous, so if you have the means I recommend reading it. It stated that other churches are planning on screening the final rounds before church services start, and even included this quote from "a spokeswoman for the Northwest New Life Church (I don't even want to know who it was) :
Now doesn't this just completely go against what some people in that very same church often preach about? Aren't certain 'leaders' always saying "put God first in every area of your life", yet the whole church is getting put to the side in order to accommodate the congregation's need to watch the All Blacks lose another World Cup? And her statement is basically saying when the All Blacks lose, those people are going to find it hard to worship God - so I guess that means that everyone will be able to praise God so much more if they actually win.
Oh yeah, I'm sure that's who you will be praising.
No offense to all the people from Northwest that read my blog, but I surely will not be attending any of your services when those games are shown.
Go New Life churches! Good to see those hundreds of thousands of dollars you all spend on state of the art audio & visual systems are finally being put to good use!

My Dream Match
I just had a great thought.
What would be better than the All Blacks being eliminated from this year's rugby world cup?
How about the All Blacks making the final, then just as one of them is going for a try... La Parka runs on the field and smacks him with a steel chair! "Macho Man" Randy Savage then leaps from the advertising barrier and drops a flying elbow on the prone All Blacks' body, while La Parka continues to dish out chair shots on the remaining players. Scott Steiner comes in and yells a lot about him being bigger and stronger than rugby players (though we all find it hard to understand him) and throws a few in the Steiner Recliner. Then that awesome theme music hits and Bret Hart comes down and throws the All Blacks' captain in the Sharpshooter... and I run down and talk trash to him while Bret Hart keeps him in the hold. Then after a while I just sort of stand over his lifeless body with the World Championship belt held high in the air. Then George W. Bush declares rugby a terrorist organisation and blows up the stadium, killing thousands of rugby players and fans alike.
Memo to Vince McMahon:
I smell crossover ratings glory!

A Mesage to All Rugby Fans
Your sport is stupid.
Seriously, what is the thrill? There is no mental challenge to the game (other than the fact you need to be mentally retarded to choose to play), and the only real skill involved is being big and being able to run.
I hate the All Blacks. No seriously - I HATE them. I see products in the store with an All Blacks picture on it, and I buy something else. I used to eat Weetbix every morning until last year when they started making the box black and covered with those idiots... And I refuse to buy any products that uses them in advertising; I'd rather give my money to a company that uses child labour than support more money being given to these untalented jokers.
The players themselves are chumps and I can't stand them at all. Rugby players in general annoy me.
And I'm not fond of Rugby fans either.
Why is it when I tell someone where I am from they automatically start talking to me about the team from there? For all I care, they could be the champions of every rugby competition and make their mascot a giant cuddly duck - it still wouldn't make care or want to move back there and hang out with all the brainless thugs that play for the team. Yeah, we could drink some beer, go to The Outback and pick up some girls... that would be fun! And then I could move to America, sign up for service in Iraq and vote Republican...
I hope that at this year's world cup - which people can't seem to stop going on about, even though it hasn't even started yet - the All Blacks lose to some team like France. Or Argentina. Heck, even Australia. I just can't wait to see us lose yet another world cup and see everyone crying again. Every four years it is the same thing, and it has become my favourte part of the whole event.
If you want to watch real athletes, catch this weekend's Summerslam. I have more respect for the contestants in the Diva Battle Royal than I do for any of those losers in black jerseys that are supposed to be our national heroes.
Rugby sucks.
