Kiss's first family portrait. Baby Gene's poor behaviour seems to be upsetting to the others...
Let's start again at the beginning with Kiss' first album, because that seems like the best place to start. I mean, we could start at the end and be done already... wait, that sounds way better! Can I please do that? No? Oh, OK - beginning it is!
I enjoy this album. I mean, the energy is totally weak compared to how most of these songs sound live, but I guess Kiss didn't really know what they were doing at this stage. Doesn't stop the album being filled with great songs, though: Strutter has a stack of groove and makes me want to be a sexy model. I actually jammed that for some catwalk show when I was 17 (I didn't model, I just played guitar with a friend. He was a much better guitarist). Nothin' to Lose is hurt by the pedestrian nature. And Gene's terrible vocals. Luckily Peter Criss is barrels of fun. Firehouse is such a classic, but again feels like a totally gutless version of the song here. Not sure why everyone hates Kissin' Time so much, but I don't mind it so much. Except for maybe the chorus. And Love Theme from Kiss is all kinds of boring. But the rest of the album is just classic, killer Kiss.
Great way to start!
