Welcome to Kiss Fabric Barn! Where we meet all your animal print needs...
Shreddy shred shredder!!!
Vinnie Vincent is gone, but don't worry because he has been replaced with shredding! So much shredding going on here, it's really hard to keep up. Opening song I've Had Enough (Into the Fire) continues the themes explored by Lick It Up - that being how Kiss can make some fast hair metal without making it interesting. Though this song somewhat improves as it goes on, so I guess they failed at their plan. But boy oh boy does Mark St John shred up a storm. Heaven's On Fire is quite fun. Burn, Bitch, Burn is almost just as fun. Kiss seem to be discussing fire a lot, perhaps trying to reclaim the glory of Firehouse or Hotter Than Hell?
Get All You Can Take is like the grooviest song since Lick It Up. And then Mark St John shreds his guitar all over the place and makes me think this is a different song. Lonely Is the Hunter follows the same path. Under the Gun takes us back to Lick It Up styles, just with even more ridiculous shredding. Thrills in the Night is much more melodic. Even the shredding has some sense of melody. And shreddingness. While The City Sleeps shows us again that you don't need a good hook or melody or music, so long as you have Gene shouting and Mark St John shredding like Oroku Saki. I'd say Murder In High Heels is much different, but it really isn't. Except for much less shredding. Oh no, wait, there it is. So out of place it made Eddie Van Halen sound melodic.
And with that, we farewell Mark St John and thank him for his only contribution to Kisstory. His reign may have been the shortest, but his shredding is equal to the entire Kiss catalogue.
